Product Description

Farrow & Ball Limewash is a specialty, historical paint finish designed specifically for traditional, historic, and listed buildings. Formulated with slaked lime and natural pigments, it bonds chemically with porous substrates to create a soft, chalky, and gently weathered patina that ages beautifully over time.

Engineered with maximum breathability, Limewash allows moisture and water vapor to pass freely through walls, preventing damp retention and structural decay in soft stone, cob, and historic lime plaster. It is naturally antibacterial and mold-resistant, offering authentic protection for delicate architectural heritage.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Ultra-Breathable: Exceptional vapor permeability allows old walls to "breathe" and dry naturally.

  • Historical Finish: Soft, delicate finish with subtle color variations characteristic of traditional lime paints.

  • Mould & Antibacterial Resistance: Naturally high pH prevents fungal and algae growth without harsh chemicals.

  • Ideal Surfaces: Perfect for interior and exterior lime plaster, cob, soft historic brick, and porous stone.

  • Eco-Friendly: 100% natural water-based formula with zero added VOCs.

  • Coverage: Up to 6 m² per liter per coat (requires multiple thin applications).

  • Drying Time: Surface dry in 2–4 hours; allow 24 hours between coats for full carbonation.

How to Apply

  1. Preparation: Ensure surfaces are thoroughly dampened with clean water prior to application to prevent rapid drying.

  2. Priming: Do not use standard primers. Apply directly to wet, porous lime-based substrates or suitable lime render.

  3. Application: Stir continuously during use. Apply 4 to 5 very thin coats using a traditional masonry brush in a random, criss-cross motion. Keep surrounding areas misted with water during curing.
